Who We Are

COCHASA's members support and encourage an holistic approach to health care, which includes promoting wellness - the integration of body, mind and spirit - with an understanding that everything you do, think, feel and believe has an impact on your state of health.
To date COCHASA has made significant progress in lobbying and achieving the potential for complementary approaches to be included within the national health system.
Our history and role in complementary health services in South Africa.

Nontherapeutic Health Services

COCHASA members offer complementary health services that are intended to promote wellness and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure disease.

These services employ supportive, holistic methods to facilitate ease of the body-mind, and do not interfere or counteract treatment regimes recommended by your health practitioner.

If you have a health condition, please consult a qualified health practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council or the Allied Health Professions Council.

Body Stress Release

Body Stress Release is a health profession concerned with assisting the body to release stored tension thereby allowing it to maximise its ability to maintain and heal itself. This technique has been developed and practised in South Africa by Gail and Ewald Meggersee since 1981.

When we are subjected to stress overload, tension becomes locked into our physical structures. The causes may be mechanical - accidents or incorrect exercise; chemical - pollutants, substances in foods and cosmetics; or mental/emotional stress. This stored tension may result in pain, stiffness or numbness and postural distortions. The impact on the nervous system undermines the body's ability to coordinate and heal itself.

MYYO Technique

The MYYO Technique is a holistic, natural way of relieving discomfort and stress in a person so that they can “Live Life Painlessly”.

The term MYYO is a combination of 2 words – ‘MYO’ (Greek for muscles) and ‘YOga’ - thus it is a manual process of relieving pain by working on, and stretching of muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (connective tissue), with yogic breathing. It was developed by Anne Combrinck from South Africa.

Polarity Therapy

Polarity has four related aspects

  • Bodywork
  • Polarity stretching postures
  • Cleansing diets
  • Awareness facilitation.

It is a truly holistic health system  which sees ill health as a process and not as a syndrome, demanding active participation in his/her own health-building approach. We need to accept responsibility for our own well-being and foster a positive mental attitude.

'It is only the Energy in Matter that makes matter seem alive. When this energy escapes, only the shell is left…..A cure constitutes reaching the life current within and re-establishing the free flow of its energy'.
Dr  R.Stone. ‘Health Building’. Chapter 1
